Joe Van Valer (1935-2011), Counsel
Joe Van Valer had over 30 years of experience in construction, real estate, and corporate law. A graduate of Franklin College and Indiana University School of Law, Joe served as Prosecuting Attorney for the Eighth Judicial Circuit, State of Indiana from 1967 to 1974 and was a partner with Van Valer & Williams and all predecessor firms, before founding Van Valer Law Firm in 1996.
Joe served on the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis Board of Directors starting 1975 and was Life Director for both the Indiana Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders. He was a Graduate Builder Institute Instructor in Indiana and Kentucky and had published numerous articles on real estate and construction law issues. Joe conceived and promoted legislation clarifying the law of implied warranties for the benefit of residential builders and home buyers. The purpose of the legislation was to reduce litigation involving residential construction.
Joe was the recipient of several distinguished honors including the State of Indiana Governor’s Commendation, Johnson County Builders’ Council Man of the Year award, and the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis’ Outstanding Service to the Industry award.
